John "Godfather Albert" Alvin Kinchen

d. March 5, 2023

John Alvin “Godfather Albert” Kinchen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 75. John was born to the union of Joe and Thelma Kinchen on May 7, 1947. A lifelong Baton Rouge, Louisiana resident, he accepted Christ at an early age. A graduate of Mckinley High School, John, a retired mechanic, worked alongside his brother, Jessie, in auto body repair. Although John had a trade in Auto Mechanics, he was an intelligent entrepreneur who had his hands in various businesses. In his spare time, John enjoyed watching Westerns, Karate, and Scifi, Sweeping the yard, drinking his favorite drink, and playing his Pick 3 numbers. John was a rarity. To know him was to love him. He opened his doors to any and everyone, earning him the distinction of “the Godfather on the Lake.” John cherished time with his children and extended family; he welcomed his great grandchild just three days before his passing. John put up a courageous fight but ultimately succumbed to his long-term battle with cancer. John’s medical team had prepared him several times for his final day, but John fought, each time making a 360 turn. On March 5, 2023, at Oschner Hospital, John ended the fight on his terms. As a result of his passing, John leaves to cherish his memory: twelve children, Andrea Abbott Johnson (Sedrick), Courtney Abbott (Nette), Johnathan Abbott (Collen), Thelma Kinchen, Tremaine Montrell Abbott (Keyana), John Fields, Paullet Fontenot (Lynn), Albertine Kinchen, Shannon Kinchen, Terrell Kinchen (Lakeysha), and Yalonda Kinchen; two Stepchildren; Myesia Vorise (Marlon Sr.) and Michael Abbot, Sr. (Tomeka); a brother, Jesse Kinchen (Diane); 36 grandkids, 15 great grandkids, a devoted friend, Albert Fat Knighten, and a host of family and friends. John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kinchen, parents; Thelma and Joe Kinchen; grandson, Travis; brother, Joseph “Mane” Kinchen; Sister, Ruby Lee Kinchen; Maternal and paternal grandparents; Two nephews; Otis and Lil Joe, and two nieces, Veronica and Melonie.
