Lois Ann and her twin sister Joyce were born on July 29, 1944, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, to the loving union of Lawrence Herbert Major and Marie Lillian Ellis Major. Lois experienced multiple losses at an early age. First the death of her twin sister at birth, then the untimely deaths of both parents. Despite these life events, Lois lived life fully, laughed often and loved much. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Augusta “GaGa” “Gussie” Eames, the matriarch of the family and her husband General Eames. Lois’ grandmother was dedicated to her educational success and her belief and trust in God. Lois, like her grandmother was unwavering in her faith. She was baptized as a child and continued her walk with God until that faithful day on October 25, 2022. It was on that day that an Angel of the Lord came to her bedside and quietly ushered her into her new life, a life with no more sorrow, sickness, pain, or death. Lois graduated from Capital High School in 1964 and went on to attend Southern University at Baton Rouge where she attained both her Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Education. Following the completion of her master’s degree, Lois went on to complete her +30 designation by taking additional masters level courses to increase her professional knowledge. Lois taught mathematics in the Ascension Parish School System for 30 years until her retirement. She exhibited unwavering dedication to her students, her chosen profession and the community she served. Lois enjoyed teaching, reading, and traveling with childhood friends. She relished time spent with friends telling stories over lunch at Goodwood Grill and shopping sprees at her favorite store, T.J. Maxx. She loved dressing up and was always “Dressed to Impress.” Her favorite print was leopard. That print was never far away from her. It may not be noticeable, but trust, she was wearing it. Lois’ first marriage was to Sydney Earl Gray to that union, their only beloved child, Christopher “Chris” Rainard Gray was born. Chris’ birth brought joy to not only his parents, but his doting grandparents alike. She later married Eddie Landry. Lois’ life impacted the lives of countless individuals.
