Robert Thomas Sanders, Sr

On February 14, 2023, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother Robert Thomas Sanders, SR unexpectedly passed away in Baton Rouge, LA at the age of 71. Robert Thomas Sanders, SR, known to most as Tom, Tommy or “Tiger” was born to the late Frank James Sanders, SR and Alma Sanders in Tylertown, TX on March 1, 1951. Growing up, Tom, had a rich and full childhood. Early on, it was clear that Tom had a passion for sports, mainly football and baseball. In high school Tom lettered all 4 years in varsity football and baseball. Tom was a magnificent player; on the football field he was declared one of the fastest running backs in the state. In baseball, his athletic abilities surpassed many as he proved his talents time and time again as a “switch pitcher” and “switch hitter!” Tom graduated from John Curtis High School in 1970 and earned the All-American award for both football and baseball. His athletic abilities brought the attentions of many! Tom was drafted by the Texas Rangers in May 1970; however, Tom had a great love and after much consideration Tom decided to follow his heart. On August 22, 1970, Tom married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Patricia Sanders. Together they raised their three children with patience, discipline, and humility. Tom lived for his family and loved with his whole heart. He spent many hours sowing into his sons as they cast lines hoping to catch the infamous “wide mouth bass.” Tom was blessed with a large and loving family; they were the world to him, and he cherished each moment and memory made. Everything Tom did, he did it well! Tom was an entrepreneur and business owner. In the business world, Tom exuberated his talents and abilities and thus “Tiger” was born. Tom had an unquenchable thirst for growing businesses and was never scared to take on new opportunities. Tom brought incredible patience, and through his success always made time to help others to the next level. Tom loved and lived life to the fullest. He loved his family, but mostly loved the Lord. Although heart broken, Tom’s family and friends know that he is sitting with Jesus asking all the questions we will one day learn! Robert Thomas Sanders, SR is survived by his wife Patricia Sanders, sons Robert Thomas Sanders, Jr “Tommy”, Timothy (Sarah) Sanders, and Shawn Sanders; his grandchildren Kaylyn Sanders (Erica Nale), Victoria Sanders (Vicky Morales), Gabrielle Sanders, Kristian (Hayley) Williams, Samantha (Marcus) Wainwright, Victoria Williams, and Matthew Williams; his great grandchildren Penelope Wainwright, Ryleigh Edwards, Audrey Williams, David Wainwright and Rori Williams; his sister Sandra Sanders and brother Jim Sanders. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank James Sanders, SR and Alma Sanders. “We’d give our best day to cast a line with you one more time.” —Timothy & Tommy Sanders Services will be held Monday February 20, 2023 at Resting Place 7840 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
